Jazz Journalists Association features Jim Brock Photography coverage of the 2026 Newport Jazz Festival

Some years ago, a colleague who helped produce the Newport Jazz Festival encouraged me to join the Jazz Journalists Association. I was initially reluctant. After all, I’m a photographer first, who occasionally writes in a conversational style. The jazz journalists I’ve read through the years, including JJA members (many of whom are featured in their exhaustive Jazz Omnibus collection) read more like scholars of the medium. Like they all have advanced degrees in the sounds that so indescribably shape my head and spirit, an encyclopedia (remember those?) of facts and history at their fingertips expressed as higher literature that I can only stand and admire. But, hey, the annual dues were $90, and if they’d have me, why not. So began a relationship that has steadily grown with a sense of belonging and awe. To that end, I’m pleased to share my Newport Jazz Festival 2026 reflections featured this week on the JJA’s landing page, with a deeper curated gallery posting on this site soon.
