Before the Father’s Day weekend crowd filled in for Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival (curated by Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington and produced by the L.A. Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl), jazz lovers could step into the second annual Jazz Village Experience in the shaded and spacious Kagan Patio. The Jazz Village Experience featured a number of exceptional artists, DJs including the “Jazzcat” LeRoy Downs and a theme of jazz fusion that was a pretty immersive soundtrack for my younger years. Jim Brock Photography was featured with the Just Jazz Foundation, providing an exhibit of prints from Just Jazz concert series performances over the years. I have worked closely with both LeRoy and Fred Smith, the founders of Just Jazz, and committed to supporting their efforts to platform the music and the artists who make it. The featured work was a reflection of these efforts, and my attempt to visually capture some of the remarkable music by remarkable musicians in remarkable spaces.
