I still have not completely absorbed the remarkable three days of the 2022 Newport Folk Festival that brought Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell back to the stage. It had been 8,660 days since Joni Mitchell last performed with guitar in hand in front of a paying audience, and it may or may not ever happen again. And, while I have been fortunate to cover NFF for many years, this one will truly be remembered for generations. It certainly was one of the most moving and important events I have attended and documented.
The folks at No Depression trusted Anthony Mulcahy and I to bring back what caught our eyes and ears. Little did we know what was in store. Our coverage can be found in the latest Through the Lens column, for the journal of roots music, No Depression.
